Rooted in Hawaiʻi

Building genetics care for the place she calls home.

Born and raised in Hawaiʻi, Dr. Dowsett returned home after completing her medical training with a commitment to caring for the communities that raised her.

As a Native Hawaiian physician and the first Native Hawaiian to become board certified in Medical Genetics and Genomics, she brings both specialized expertise and a deeply personal understanding of the responsibility that comes with caring for Hawaiʻi’s families.

She founded Hoʻoilina Genomics Institute to help build something Hawaiʻi has long needed: accessible, locally rooted genetics care designed to serve people across islands, generations, and stages of life.

Meet Dr. Dowsett

Medicine has always been about people.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of walking alongside individuals and families during some of their most uncertain moments. Genetics often begins with questions—about a child, a pregnancy, a diagnosis, or a family history. Behind every question is a person seeking understanding, guidance, and hope.

Hoʻoilina Genomics Institute grew from a simple belief: Hawaiʻi deserves genetics care built specifically for our communities, our families, and our future. My vision has never been simply to create a medical practice. It is to build an institution that expands access to genomic medicine, develops the next generation of leaders, and serves our islands for decades to come.

Whether you are a patient, a family member, a referring provider, or potential partner, mahalo for taking the time to learn about HGI. I hope the work we do earns your trust, and I look forward to what we can build together.
